Home baked gingerbread men are far better than any store-bought ones, quite apart from the enjoyment children get from helping make them. But it was my mother who cooked them – African ayas didn’t cook…

Nice recipe, but I LIKED a fair amount of ginger, even as a child, so I’d increase the amount.
